Amazing Magic Tricks Revealed

By James Wong

There is a famous magic trick with the effect of a handkerchief suddenly appearing in a decanter. We might try a similar invention right now, using that decanter trick as the basis. At random, we substitute a photograph for the handkerchief. This substitution suggests a frame in which it may appear. We must have a place in which to hide the picture prior to its appearance. A hollow back immediately comes to mind. The picture could be rolled up in one edge of the frame as well.

To meet modern conditions we might borrow the indirect method of applying the power to pull the thread. Spinning the frame, as Orrin spins the web, would do. The frame might be mounted, spinning around vertically. Or it might spin from back to front, horizontally, on a shaft extending from side to side. Of course, we could spin it as the web is turned.

The thread is attached to the picture. This is brought into view as the frame turns. Some experiment might be necessary to determine the best hiding place. More experiment will determine the proper type of rotation. Other details, such as insuring that the picture will not be caught, construction to insure smooth passage, stiffness of the picture stock and other' matters will develop the best general plan.

Methods of pulling the thread other than turning the frame would be using assistant or counterweight or some sort of mechanical device. The thread could be tied on a chair on stage and the magician holds the picture frame in hands. When he desires to execute the trickery, he can simply walk forward and the thread is tightened and the picture is pulled into view.

The change of the container can also bring a different flavor to the magic trick. Try an elegant vase and make a rose appear in it. The vase could be glued to a turntable. Spin the turntable quickly to cause the rose to fly into place from a secret hiding pocket behind the table.

You can achieve more close up magic by transforming the device to a portable one instead of massive stage props. Treat your hands as the decanter. Hide the handkerchief in your coat pocket or sleeve. Tie the handkerchief with a thread. The other end goes to the belt and fixed. When you execute the move, hook onto the thread with your thumb and pull quickly. If done correctly, you can make a handkerchief appears magically at your finger tips.

With one end of the thread attached to a firm foundation, just hooking one thumb beneath it and pushing forward suddenly will make it possible to produce a silk, a flower, or some small device with which you work. - 31879

The Tale of Dungeons and Dragons

By Zeeman Haus

Know ye now of days gone by where elves ruled and dragons flew? Know ye not? Well I'm going to tell you a thing or two about Dungeons and Dragons so you can impress all your friends.

Dungeons and Dragons was first on the scene nearly 36 years ago as a game. Invented in 1974, it saw several rules changes and some refinement of the last three and half decades, though it say it's hay day in the mid-80s when everyone short of your Grandmother tried the game at one point or the other.

Dungeons and Dragons could be considered a board game as well and a role playing game. It does, after all, have a "board" or map that players will have to navigate. There are game pieces to be used, but all similarity ends there. The dice used is the beginning of the divergence from the "normal" board game.

Dungeons and Dragons requires a 6, 8, 10, 12 and 20 sided die to place. As crazy as it sounds, they are an important part of the game. They are not used for movement, that is predetermined by the game it's self, but instead as a "luck and skill" factor for the character's individual talents. If the character shoots something, battles something or a number of other actions, they will have to roll the dice to see what the result is. Understanding the notation of the dice is important as well. A 1d12 roll is "1 die 12 sided" to be rolled while a 2d6 would be "2 dice 6 sided" and so on. Not knowing your die notation will get you laughed at.

Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Half-Elves and Halflings are all races that can be played through 99.9% of the mods; they are the base classes. Each of these races has areas of strength and weakness. Which one is chosen as the character to be played will help in determining the class of the character.

Class is what the character does for the group or party. The four main classes are: Warriors, who provide strength and tenacity and are the "shock troops" of the group. Wizards, which lack the Warrior's strength and stamina, but have the ability to use magic. Priests, which are the healers of the game and will keep a party moving forward without having to stop and heal "naturally." And Thieves, which specialize is stealth, trap detection and lock picking. There are infinite combinations of these classes, from Paladin knights to Rangers, but typically, these are considered the main character types.

The alignment of the character is the character's moral stance; good, neutral or evil. Since this is a role-playing game, this is also how your character will interact with other characters. Being an evil character does not mean you can eat another party member's hot pocket if they fall asleep on the couch, but it does mean that your character might argue with say, one of the "good guys". This adds a little something to the game. So does your character's level. The level of your character is based on what you've accomplished while playing them. With every battle won and quest completed, the player is awarded experience points, which when added to points already accumulated, will "level" a character. Higher levels mean more options as characters will gain strength and new skills with each new level achieved.

Even after over 35 years of being played, Dungeons and Dragons is still enjoyed around the world. The game has survived other Role Playing games, Online RPGs and other game platforms. Though not as prolific as they once were, D&D game groups do still exist. Most of these groups are hard to find, but they do still exist and are generally happy to take on a new person. To find groups you may check on the web, in a local comic book shop or hobby store. - 31879

Creating New Magic Tricks with Old Tricks

By Simon Wong

New magic tricks are easily created by giving some twists to some classic magic tricks or principles. Take the old appearing handkerchief in decanter trick as an example. This could be converted into a new trick by substituting props other than those used in the original version. A milk bottle could be used instead of the conventional decanter. Or a whiskey bottle. Use a necktie in place of the handkerchief, or even a small collapsible snake. Or combine the milk bottle, alone, with any vanish of a flag, a handkerchief or a piece of silk wearing apparel-even a brassiere or a pair of panties.

However, good tricks are usually invented by more than merely switching of the objects involved. Take the Orrin's Spider Web Trick as an example which in my opinion not only changed the outlook but actually improved the trick and bring it into more possibilities.

The Spider Web Trick is also to produce something by pulling the object quickly into view just as the decanter trick. The spider web trick still uses a thread which is the most important part of the trickery. But Orrin switched a card for the handkerchief. A cool spider figure is used instead of a transparent decanter. A disc decorated to look like a spider web is used instead of a plain table.

Another important change made to the tricks is the pulling method. Originally the thread is pulled by an assistant or a counter weight. But Orrin improved the pulling by incorporating the action into another flourish action which is turning the table. The turning of the table also helped in concealing the path of the card. So the effect becomes like this: the magician display a spider figure on a web. He then turns the web and the chosen card mysteriously appears at the mouth of the spider.

We are not saying that the magician Orrin created the effect by substituting the objects like that. We are just illustrating how this principle can be used to produce an innovative effect from an old trickery.

Consider the steps in outline form: 1. The objects are changed-a card for a handkerchief, a spider for a decanter. 2. The place of appearance was changed in character. The original location was inside a transparent object. 3. The source of power was changed. Originally it came from a concealed assistant. Here the performer himself applied the Power-indirectly. 4. Instead of moving the appearing object rapidly, Orrin moves the place of appearance rapidly. 5. Absence of a suitable background originally made it necessary to do the trick at a distance. Here, a background that made the thread invisible moved the trick much closer to the spectator.

It may seem that the decanter trick and the spider web trick are completely different magic effects. But after analysis, we see that they are much related. Readers can also produce new tricks by changing some elements in an old trick. - 31879

Magic Tricks From Past To Present

By James Anthony

Mastering magic tricks is a performing art. This form of art is designed to entertain people and create the illusion of what cant be possible happening in front of your eyes. The masters who create these illusions are called magicians.

The term Magi's is Latin for Magi. A Magi was someone who read the stars as well as foretold the future for their communities. One of the greatest creators of magic tricks was the illusionist and escapologist Harry Houdini. In fact, Houdini was probably the greatest magicians as well as escapologists that ever lived.

Magic tricks are successfully created with mis direction and sleight of hand. Sometimes mirrors or some other form of deception was used as well. Anything the magician could do to create a sense of wonder as he performs his seemingly impossible magic tricks.

However, magic tricks wouldn't happen without an audience who is willing to be tricked. These audiences go in knowing they are going to be deceived, yet they sit and watch the show in amazement, even though all they are watching is trickery. The act of magic tricks never fail to amaze audiences.

What Houdini did was gain the trust of his fans by debunking others who claimed magic powers instead of just calling themselves illusionists. This is a practice that is followed today by some of the greatest magicians and illusionists including James Randi and Penn and Teller.

For a long time in the U. S., magic tricks were thought to be mainly children's entertainment. This would change though with the revival of Doug Henning. He worked to bring the great magic tricks back to huge public audiences of adults and he became popular on television as well as on stage.

In the twentieth century, many illusionists have emerged that are simply amazing. Performers like David Blaine perform Houdini style magic tricks like escapes and physical endurance displays for his fans. Most of these magicians we see on television perform their magic tricks in front of a live audience in order to gain the trust of their television audience.

Most magic tricks today are based on the old principals of magic. The saying its all done with smoke and mirrors was a reference to how magic tricks were performed. However, most magicians today don't bother with mirrors, simply because they are too difficult to transport and set up.

There are many types of magic tricks that performers accomplish. First, production tricks are where the illusionist produces an object out of nothing. Vanishing tricks however do the opposite, where the object seemingly disappears. Transformation magic tricks are when the illusionist changes one object into another one and restoration is where a magician destroys an object, then makes it reappear whole once again.

Tricks of teleportation happen when the illusionist moves an object, making it appear somewhere else. Escapology is the ability to be put into a dangerous situation in restraints and be able to escape unharmed. Levitation is where the illusionist appears to make something, or someone, float in mid-air. And Penetration tricks are when the performer is able to make one item pass successfully through another, leaving the main object undamaged. - 31879

The Unrehearsed Magic Show That Had Me Begging For Clemency

By Miles Sunkest

Last week I was shuffling down the street, trying my best to beat a hangover that was holding on for dear life. It was two in the afternoon, yet the cobwebs in my mind were refusing their grip on my sanity. Which is just as well, because what happened next surely destroyed plenty of my neural connections. I passed by this bookstore, and noticed this guy inside beckoning me to come in. Naturally, I complied.

This guy was doing some of the most incredible magic I've ever seen. When I walked in he was doing these wicked card tricks. He'd ask somebody to pick a card, and then have them show their friends, like normal. Only he'd have them put the card back in the deck, but then the card would show up in their sock or their wallet or something.

Then this guy started doing these crazy mentalist tricks. He started reading everybody's minds at once and mixing their thoughts together. He would make up some weird poetry on the spot, and it would incorporate all these people's deepest, darkest secrets. To say it was strange would be beyond the wildest limits of my capabilities of expression.

After that he did more normal tricks, like making things vanish and not come back, he made a few people float up in the air, and he made this puppy dance around and sing the theme from "The Love Boat." Actually when I think about it, the whole affair was quite out of the ordinary. I'm not sure if I know what really happened.

I decided to leave, and as I was walking out the front door, I heard a booming, mystical yet authoritative voice screaming from behind me. Like a cold desperate voice from the pits of eternal loneliness.

You must learn magic tricks! You must delve into the secret world of psychic tricks to uncover the mysteries of the unknown! They are depending on you! I wasn't sure who "they" were, but that was enough to spook me for good. I ran out of there, and never came back. - 31879

Great Tips When Deciding To Book A Wedding Magician

By Andrew Edmonds

Booking a wedding magician for your special event can be a scary task since this is, after all, the biggest day of your life so far and getting it all right can be a bit overwhelming. Also, with yourselves being the centre of attention, your thoughts are not going to be on the general welfare of your guests, especially when the photographs are being taken where you will likely be occupied for one or two hours.

This is where a wedding magician can move in and add that extra dimension to your guests wedding experience leaving you with the comforting thought that they are in good hands.

But how do find the right magician for your wedding day? Let's face it, the last thing you want is an amateur with no personality showing a few silly tricks your grandad taught you when you were a child!

I've compiled several things you should note when considering hiring a wedding magician. Following each of these points you can be guaranteed of getting the wedding magician your guests deserve!

1) Variety of magicians

You need to first decide the type of magician you want and when you wish him/her to perform. The following is a list of things to consider.

Kids/Adults

Decide if you want just the kids entertained or adults or perhaps a mix of both kids and adults. A lot of wedding magicians will work only on entertaining your adult guests but most would also be happy to show the children a little something too.

Magic/mindreading

Decide if you want just visual magic with cards and coins or direct mindreading. A lot of magicians will do a bit of both though a mindreader is a very unique area which is becoming very popular. So think who you would prefer at your wedding, Derren Brown (mindreader) or David Blaine (magician)?

Close up/mingling style

A form of close-up magic performed whilst people are standing in groups, whereby the magician mingles with the crowd performing to small groups at a time. This works well for the drinks reception and evening entertainment.

Table to table style

A form of close-up magic performed whilst people are sitting at tables during the wedding breakfast, whereby the magician entertains a table at a time, between courses.

Cabaret style

A magician who performs on stage to an audience. This can work well during the evening reception as a bit of light relief for everyone.

2) Cost

It's likely you have a strict budget for your wedding so the price for hiring a magician is obviously a key factor. It would be foolish, however, to simply go with the cheapest magician you can find. There is no professional regulatory body for magicians so essentially anyone can learn a few tricks and call themselves a wedding magician. If you want quality, expect to pay in the region of 300 - 500 for two hours of close-up magic. A deposit in the range of 20% up front with the balance on the day is normal.

3) Quality of entertainer

You cannot gauge a magician's quality of entertainment simply by the price he sets. Likewise DO NOT judge a magician by how flashy his/her website is. Anyone can pay a web designer enough money to create a fantastic looking site, but that doesn't mean the magician is a good entertainer. Also, do not be drawn in by lines such as "The UK's top magician", as this is likely to have been written by the magician themselves. The following points should be seriously taken into consideration when looking over a website.

Testimonials

Testimonials are so important in your decision to book so have a thorough read through what past bookers have said. Remember, no one will ever put bad or average comments on his/her website so pay attention to the way in which a review has been written. For instance, if every testimonial says "He was awesome", or "Superb magic" then be wary. More detailed testimonials which really highlight that the clients were totally amazed and had their wedding day given that extra special element is what you are looking out for. Never be too shy to ask for a phone number of a booker on the testimonials page if you want to be absolutely sure they are genuine. A magician should be able to give you this.

Video/Radio/Pictures

There is absolutely no substitute for seeing or hearing the magician entertaining. Video and radio footage are great ways to do this. If a magician has no footage on his/her website you should probably wonder how long they have actually been performing as this should be the highest priority for a magician with a promotional website. Also great quality pictures are essential. Ensure all photos clearly show the people having a good time, also that the wedding magician looks smart, you don't want them turning up in David Blaine style dress wear of t-shirt and jeans!

4) Live

If you wish you can request the magician to give a live demonstration. This is not always required but if you really want to see the magic happen in front of your own eyes and make a decision then ask! If the magician is based within around twenty to thirty miles he should likely be perfectly willing to come to you. Any greater distance and you may need to meet halfway in a bar. You can also ask about any wedding fayres they are going to be performing at and go along to those instead.

5) Contact them

Many people shy away from calling nowadays with the ease of email. Though emailing your initial request is fine to get a quote, ALWAYS call before booking. Everyone has first impressions when meeting or talking to someone for the first time. Does he sound likable and friendly? You will instinctively know if he is the right man for the job, all other things considered.

Good luck! - 31879

Magic Tricks - 2 Methods of Production

By Simon Wong

The most common and effective method of magical production for magic tricks is by misdirection. The magician tries to produce an object; he then pretends that the object has appeared. When the audiences' attentions are directed away, the magician secretly brings out the object to be produced. The other way is to load the object while the magician is taking away another object. An example is the classic multiple cigar production effect.

One cigar is produced and placed in the opposite hand. But while the right is placing it in the left, the left hand is loading another, unseen, into the right. There are probably nine hundred and seventy-five thousand ways this principle of secretly loading while attention is elsewhere might be disguised, cloaked, counterfeited or otherwise camouflaged.

The method can be used to produce many many different objects like cards, coins, pens, glasses, CD, rings or anything you can think of. You can try it out. Do experiments. Use different objects to apply the principle and produce a trick of your own.

The next most common way to produce an object is to use speed. The magician brings out something so fast that spectators' eyes are fooled and thinks that an object has been produced. It is said that the hand is quicker than the eye, but in fact that is impossible. Some sort of help is used to achieve high speed like that.

Many kinds of mechanical devices have been used by magicians to provide the thrust they need. The most common types are pulling thread, elastic pull and the spring pull. These are convenient tools which are silent and compact. Other larger illusions can use the help of electric motor, counterweight or even steam engine. As long as the device can provide the suitable amount of force and speed that enable the object to appear at lightning speed, magicians are happy to try them out.

Usually a thread is used to pull out the object. An perfect illustration would be the appearing handkerchief effect. The handkerchief is tied by a thread that runs from the neck of a bottle to the inside and through a hole at the side to an assistant or a machine. The bottle is put on a table and the handkerchief is hidden inside a secret pocket in the table. The assistant or the machine then pulls the string at the appropriate moment extremely quickly to produce the handkerchief inside the bottle or container. - 31879

The Benefactions Of Discovering A Wedding Magician

By Andrew Edmonds

Weddings are magical events and sometimes it takes someone with special powers to make it come to life. A wedding magician is a person who provides support and assistance in a variety of ways to ensure the vision becomes a reality for the young couple. In the excitement of the moment many engaged couples lack the understanding of exactly how much work is involved in planning a wedding, but discover it all too soon. Selection of the ceremony and reception sites, choosing from the thousands of invitations available, determining colors, and many other things go into a wedding and can cause much stress if sufficient support is not available or requested.

Those helping to plan the wedding can come from family, friends, or the professional community all of whom may have varied experiences and ideas when it comes to the big day. For many brides, after beginning the planning process and collecting essential elements, they realize how overwhelming the task is, but they can rest assured that there are many people waiting in the wings to be asked to join in pulling the wedding together. For those opting to utilize the services of a professional wedding planner, the sooner they are selected the better as they often need time to contact their vendors and put together a plan that will ensure the vision becomes a reality.

Planning a wedding is almost the opposite to learning a new job after being hired. In a job a person is not expected to know exactly what they are to do the day they walk in, but instead will undergo extensive training until feeling competent to complete tasks on their own. When planning a wedding, however, brides are often expected to be experts immediately and every wrong decision can cost money. Therefore, selecting vendors, scheduling events, gathering everyone on time, getting everything out on time, and setting up on time can all be more than they can manage.

It is common for the bride-to-be to ask her mother or a close relative to assist her in choosing her wedding gown. The color theme for the wedding is sometimes agreed on with the groom, but usually this is the bride's job. The bridesmaids usually accompany the bride in trying on different styles for their dresses with the bride choosing the color. For those who serve in the role of wedding magician, or wedding planner, this selection helps set the theme for the wedding and determines many other elements of the wedding and reception.

As a couple, the bride and groom have certain responsibilities that cannot be designated to others, although suggestions are always invited. Among these are the minister, the church, and honeymoon destination. Once these decisions are made, the other elements such as the reception site, wedding cake design, and floral arrangements can be designed and ordered with the bride and groom's consent.

Wedding magicians can take many forms and many are not recognized for the contributions they make. One example is the parents who often not only provide the funding to pull off the couple's vision, but also provide support in so many other ways. Many a mother has spent the final hours before the wedding making guest favors and finishing dresses. They often are the ones that make the magic happen although they are rarely recognized as major contributors, even though their participation is appreciated.

For those who desire an outstanding wedding, but do not feel confident in making important choices alone and lack the know-how or time to get it all done by themselves, a wedding planner can work magic in achieving the countless tasks required of a wedding. The wedding planner will consult with the couple regarding any decisions or suggestions as to what they may desire. This can include, but not be limited to, the flowers, the reception food, decorations, specifics of the church ceremony, arranging for a caterer, hiring the limousine, or anything else that is needed.

Who is the Wedding Magician? It is the person or persons who assist in creating an event which will be fascinating and fabulous for all who attend. These behind the scenes people are outstanding in their own right. The excitement on the newlywed couple's faces, their happiness, and the goodwill shown by all makes the day a joyous occasion by showing the true magic of the occasion. - 31879

Magic The Gathering Mana Color

By Philip Wong

After you have determined what method you are going to employ to defeat your opponents, it is time for you to determine your favorite Mana Color. Long time ago the abilities you can find in each Mana Color are exclusive, meaning you cannot cast spells of red Mana if you only have black Mana. But now there are some Sorcery, Enchantment or other spells which are shared by different Mana Colors. But it usually cost you more to cast spells that originally belong to another Mana Color and also more limitations and requirements are imposed.

Magic cards are separated by 5 different colors: White, Black, Green, Red and Blue. Cards of the same color have inherent empowering effects on each other. One ability would make the other stronger. On the other hand, cards with different colors would impose limitations on each other when used together.

Due to the inherent effects of same color cards, some may think that a deck must be build with cards of one color only. But in fact, the game is designed in such an intelligent way that multi-color deck can also very powerful. Each color has its own style of attack. A single color deck may be more predictable and this decreases its chance of winning. Also, a single color deck can only use abilities of its own and miss out the strengths of other colors.

Thanks to the new expansion sets, new cards are introduced to bring in multicolor game play. Some cards allow you to access abilities of different colors by paying more mana cost. This would make the power of different colors more even and introduce more possibilities into the game.

Of course, if you use a deck of multi-color of Mana, you may be able to use strengths of different Mana color. But at the same time you greatly increase your own chance of making a Bad Draw. For example, you may have an entire hand of Red cards but not even one Red land card. And you will be sitting there eating fire balls.

In conclusion, using multi-color deck may be a wise way to play, but you have to have a lot of experience and a deep understanding of the different cards in order to play it well. You also have to buy a lot of multi-color cards which are usually more expensive. Like the famous card City of Brass, it gives 1 mana of color of your choice when you tap it, plus it will deal 1 damage to your opponent. This card alone costs around $4.5. Bear in mind you will have to get a bunch of these. So my recommendation is that you first familiarize yourself with single color or 2 color decks first, when you got the experiences and skills to play really diverse deck, you can go ahead. Wish you become a strong planeswalker. - 31879

New Magic Tricks Secrets Revealed: Who Is Behind It?

By James Anthony

Magicians have been part of human culture since the dawn of time. One thing a magician would never do is reveal the secrets of his profession to anyone other than someone learning to be a magician and who has sworn to honor the magician's code. The magician's code to never reveal trade secrets is taken extremely seriously by old-school magicians. But starting in the 1990s, a few practicing magicians decided to ignore the code and began to show new magic tricks secrets revealed to audiences. How has this phenomenon impacted magic as a profession? Has it been detrimental or has it encouraged young people to learn magic? Let us see what we can find out.

Harry Houdini became a staunch critic of Spiritualism, seances and other tricks claiming supernatural powers. He spent the latter part of his life debunking Spiritualist frauds. He revealed to the public how these hucksters preyed on people who were often in mourning for a lost loved one by faking contact with the loved on at a seance. Houdini did not seem to anger his fellow magicians, probably because he was only exposing people using magic to defraud people, not as entertainment.

Perhaps the most famous pair of new magic tricks secrets revealed is Penn & Teller. By 1996, they had been on television exposing trade secrets. Despite the fact that most of what they were revealing was old magic tricks with their particular spin on them, and the fact that all they revealed was the part they added, other magicians were furious. In their opinion, Penn & Teller were completely out of line.

The Amazing Randi (James Randi) began his magic career in 1966. He has since retired but has a second career of sorts debunking faith healers and other performers claiming their tricks were due to their supernatural abilities. One famous act Mr. Randi revealed as a fraud was the spoon-bending Uri Geller. At the current time, James Randi's educational foundation has a $1,000,000 prize to anyone who can show that they have supernatural abilities. They must consent to these abilities being scrutinized by researchers. So far the foundation still has all of the money in its possession.

The Masked Magician hit the airwaves in the 1990s. A series of television shows that aired on the FOX network revealed secrets behind some of the biggest and most famous illusions. He showed audiences around the UK how a magician could turn a woman into a tiger, as well as other illusions. According to Val Valentino, the Masked Magician's stage name, he wore the mask to avoid revealing himself to other magicians.

Other magicians were very angry at Val Valentino. They were worried that he had set their careers to fail by revealing their secrets. At the foundation of their worry was that people would not go to magic shows anymore. They reasoned that since people knew how the trick was done, all of the wonder would be lost. Valentino said he had only admirable motives. He wanted to revive the magic profession and get people interested in it.

Barry and Stuart, a UK-based magic act, did a series of television shows focusing on biblical miracles. They showed how Jesus could look like he was walking on water and how Moses could have split the Red Sea. Leaders of the religious community did not appreciate the shows done by these two men, although the general public did.

Has breaking the magician's code and showing the world how magic tricks are performed really ended careers of other magicians? Or, is the opposite true? Has magic seen a rise in performers? It is difficult to gauge accurately if a particular magician's career has been thwarted. What we can say is that despite knowing how tricks are performed, the public is still eager to suspend belief for the few minutes it takes to do a trick. People still like the look and feel of mystery that surrounds magic. - 31879

The Most Extraordinary Exhibition of Extrasensory Capability I've Ever Witnessed

By Miles Sunkest

Have you ever experienced something that made you question the very fabric of reality? That happened to me the other day. Allow me to tell you my story. I was sitting in a public park, when my friend pulled up on his bicycle. He told me to get on the back. I thought we were going to play video games or something.

Twenty minutes later, we arrived at this barn out in the middle of nowhere. I had never been down the road that we'd taken, so I had never seen this barn before. It was this huge red thing that looked like somebody stole it from a book or something. When we walked inside, I was surprised beyond belief.

The inside was completely different. The walls had these long ornate rugs hanging from them. The floors were covered in this deep red carpet with gold flecks. In front, I guess it was the front, was this big stage. I looked around, and there must have been at least two hundred people inside. All talking like they knew exactly what was going on. Nobody seemed to notice me. Then there was a sound that I thought was thunder, or something.

Out on stage walked this really somber looking guy in a suit that looked like it came out of a Sears catalogue from the 1800's. Without a word, he started waving his hands, and pulling objects from thin air. Roses, books, a bowling ball, and a cat. Yes, a live cat.

Then he stopped and jumped off the stage, and walked around the audience. He would walk up to a random person, and put his hands on their temples like he was doing a Vulcan mind meld. Then he would speak, but he would sound exactly like the person he did the mind meld with. And he would say things about that person, in there own voice, that nobody else could possibly have known.

Before I knew it, my friend was driving us back home. He let me off where he picked me up, and that was the end of the most bizarre night of my entire life. - 31879

This Easy Card Trick Is Effortless To Understand And Fun To Do

By Miles Sunkest

If you've ever wanted to learn some simple tricks to do at parties and bars to entertain people and make new friends, this is you lucky day. I'll teach you quick and easy trick that is easy to learn and easy to perform. And the best part is that it never fails to impress whoever you show it to.

This is a card trick, so you'll need to get yourself a deck of cards. Any deck will do, in any order, and any size. Even if it's an old deck with a couple cards missing, this will still work. Start out just like you'd expect. Fan out the cards, and have your mark pick one card, any card. Tell them to memorize it completely, and show it to everyone else who happens to be standing around.

Then while they are studying the card, you do the sneaky part. Open up the deck, as if you are going to hold it out for them to place there card. All you do, is take a quick peek of the card that is going to be on top of theirs. It's that simple. Once you know that card, when you look through the deck, you know that there's is the next one.

One way that works pretty good is to slowly look through the cards, holding them so they are facing you. Keep looking at them as if you are trying to read their mind. When you get to their card, put it on top of the deck. They won't know what you are doing since they can't see the cards.

Now you've got the deck with their card on top. You can do all sorts of fun stuff with. One way is to become distracted, and start talking about something else. Then divert their attention, and quickly take their card off the top and stick it under a napkin or something. Then later, say you forgot their card and ask them what it is. Look through the deck, and when you are unable to find it, ask them to look. While they are looking, you can "discover" the card under the napkin, or wherever you put it.

This, of course, is just one of many tricks that you can easily learn and powerfully demonstrate to the pleasure and entertainment of others. And you'll quickly become the most invited person to all your neighborhood parties. - 31879

How My Brain Was Drained And My Pockets Were Stuffed By The Sprite Magician From Hell

By Miles Sunkest

So the other night something happened to me that I am one hundred percent certain that you are not going to believe. If you are one of those skeptics that needs proof for everything, then you've wandered into the wrong part of the Internet. However, if you have an open mind and like to be entertained, keep reading. This all happened on one of those nights that seem like any other night.

A group of buddies just burst in, without knocking, without calling, without any pretense whatsoever. They merely arrived, and informed me I was going with them. My refusal didn't seem to be part of their plan, so I acquiesced.

Outside was a big limo. Why I'll never know. We piled in the back, and drinks were served all around. They told me that we were going to see a special magician that only performed to private audiences, and only by invitation only. Whatever. I had no idea what that meant. We showed up at an abandoned shoe repair shop in some strip mall that had seen better days.

When we walked inside, I was shocked beyond belief. The inside was about a hundred times bigger than you'd guess by looking at the outside. My friends all smiled in astonishment, as if they too, didn't expect this. Then the strangeness began.

This really creepy guy just appeared from the rafters. He floated down, but we couldn't' see any wires. Then he started making all these objects appear, and vanish, and float around in mid-air. There was no way he was doing any tricks. He was completely real. Then he said some weird words in Latin, or something, and all this money started floating down from the sky. The people went nuts. It kept floating down for what seemed like a long time. Finally it stopped, and he was gone.

The entire ride home, my friends kept smiling and counting there money. I had quite a large wad myself. I kept waiting to wake up from the dream, but so far it's still real. There is more magic to be had, and if you're interested, I think you know where to go. That is all for now. - 31879

Magic The Gathering World Championships 2009

By Philip Wong

When you think about collectible card games, I bet Magic The Gathering is the one that pops into your mind first. This old old card game is really amazing. People all over the world spend millions of dollars on it and countless hours sitting in front of the table trying to fight imaginary battles. It was invented by a mathematician originally. That's why the complicated dynamic between cards and the rules work like magic and creates the most fascinating trading card game ever.

The 2009 Magic The Gathering World Championships has ended in glory. People from all over the world came the arena to fight for the crazy title of the best Magic player in the world. This year the a mysterious team from China won the World Team Championship. The team members are Bo Li, Wu Tong and Zhiyang Zhang. The champion goes to Andre Coimbra. We have done some statistics to look into how these guys beat all other opponents and get the honor. And we can learn something from the stats and make it our advantages.

During the four days tournament, players have to participate in hundreds of games in various formats. In fact, they have to train up for at least three different kinds in order to survive all the battles. Just the endurance it requires is spectacular enough to be given standing ovations. I personally would not have entered the game for some applause. Well, I guess the winners do get some kinds of material rewards.

On Day one of the tournament, standard playing is used. In this game play, the Jund deck is the most remarkable one. It is the most frequently used deck and it has an outstanding winning rate of around 53%. Although according to statistics Jund was not the most accurate deck, but the amount of matches that people won using Jund is jaw-dropping. It was 729 matches! And the highest winning ratio deck was the Turbo-Fog Deck which was not used by many people. It only happened less than 20 times which were all from 2 players.

After concluding all the data, we think the Green-White Aggro deserves the best deck award. The Green-White Aggro deck is used in almost one hundred matches. And almost fifty matches were won. The winning percentage is a little above that of the Jund deck.

Magic The Gathering is a fun game to play. But you decide whether you would like to spend the time and effort to make yourself so good at it that you can compete for the world championship. - 31879
