A Great Telekinetic Bar Trick That Will Earn You Free Drinks

By Miles Sunkest

If you're ever in a bar or party and want to do a quick trick that will impress anybody, and get you a few drinks, this article is for you. This trick quickly and easily captivates anyone, and despite being incredibly simple to learn, nobody will figure out how you do this. This is a close up magic tricks, and only requires on simple prop that you can easily borrow from somebody if you don't have one. It's best done in an environment with some background noise.

Here's how the trick looks to your friends. You tell them you have recently developed some telekinetic abilities. You can tell them you were hit by lighting, or a lamp fell in the bathtub while you were taking a bath or something. You skills are fairly new, so you are still working out the kinks. You can only repel small objects with the power of thought. You haven't yet learned how to lift up X-Wing fighters like Yoda.

You ask if somebody has a cigarette. Put the cigarette on the table, and begin to summon your newly found telekinetic skills. Hold your hand cupped behind the cigarette, and it will mysteriously roll toward you. You place both hands on either side of the cigarette, and it moves away from you. Drop your hands, and head, and command somebody to bring you a beer so you can recharge your mental powers. If you're lucky, you'll be three sheets to the wind without paying a dime.

Here's the secret. When you have your hand cupped behind the cigarette, simply blow into your hand. The wind will circulate, and cause the cigarette to roll toward you. Holding both hands on either side of the cigarette, it will naturally roll away from you. Most people are afraid to try this to fear of getting caught, but it almost never happens. With the right set up, people will be looking at the cigarette and not your face.

It is a good idea to practice before hand, so you know exactly how to position your lips, and how to quickly blow without detection. Also make sure you aren't doing this in an area with any transient wind, like from an overhead fan or an open window. Like any other simple trick, this works best with a long, convoluted setup, and then quickly doing the trick and removing the prop. Be careful not to spend too much time "in position" than you have to. After a few practice sessions, you'll expertly be able to blow your breath without detection from others.

It goes without saying that the best place this works is in bars or parties, and when you are talking about something other than magic. Just covertly introduce the idea of you suddenly having psychic powers. Place the cigarette on the table in front of you, and get on with your patter for a while before you do the trick, that will increase their focus on the cigarette itself, and not you. A great way to cover yourself, is to act surprised every time the cigarette moves, as if you still can't believe your telekinetic powers. Have fun with this. - 31879

A Couple Of Very Simple Magic Tricks To Learn

By Trevor Johnson

If you are looking for a couple of really easy magic tricks to learn that you can try on your friends then the two following ones will be perfect for you. Some people are unable to master anything to complicated and so coming up with a couple of easy options is a great idea. Of course, you'll need to do a bit of practice first - watching yourself perform in front of a mirror is a good way - but then you'll be ready for show time!

The two tricks here are both very simple to execute and will simply use a little bit of misdirection in order to make sure that your audience is not focusing on the little tricks you are pulling off. So don't look the other way while I'm showing you what to do.

The first trick goes as follows. Grab yourself a deck of cards and get someone to pick out any card from the deck. When they are trying to remember it very sneakily turn the bottom card over and then flip the whole deck.

Get them to pop the card back in, anywhere they like and look away. Now say that you will find the card and put them behind you back, turn the top card back around and hand them back. The card will be the one that is flipped when they look through the deck.

Next try this easy trick. Shuffle up the cards once of twice. Then have a sneaky look at the bottom card without them seeing you. Now drop the cards from the bottom onto the ground and ask someone to say stop once you have reached the tenth or so card.

Keep an eye on the bottom card that you memorised and then pile the cards that you dropped with the bottom one to the top. Now show them this top card but not yourself and have them reshuffle the pack without you looking. All you have to do now is baffle them by finding their card using magic. - 31879

The Potent Fortune Magic Trick

By Miles Sunkest

This is a great magic trick that is simple and fun. It is an up close magic trick involving everybody's favorite thing: Money. When you this trick, you will appear to be able to make money appear and vanish at will.

This is how it looks to your audience. You hold out your hands, showing there is nothing in them. It helps, of course, to tell some engaging and interesting story about how you learned this trick. The longer and more suspenseful, the better. One great thing to do is work the idea of money appearing and vanishing into your story, and make it happen in real life as it does in your story. Any audience will naturally be impressed by this.

Here's how you do the trick. Just get any coin, large enough to see from a distance, like a half dollar. Get a strong piece of clear adhesive tape, and simply tape the coin securely to your middle finger on your left or right hand, so it rests snugly against your palm. It's a good idea to practice in front of a mirror for a bit, so you can move your hand around freely without anybody seeing the coin.

To make the coin appear, simply flip it up and over the top of your palm, just enough to hold it in place with your thumb. When you make it vanish, flip it back and hide it securely in your palm. As it's important to keep the focus off your hand, you'll need to tell a compelling story, and use sweeping gestures with your other hand, and some animated facial expressions.

The longer story you can tell, the better. If you're not going to tell a story to go along with this trick, it's better to show it once in a while, completely unannounced, catching people off guard. If people are expecting to see a coin magically appear from your hand, they'll naturally be watching your hand intently. You can easily do this trick at a bar or party in the middle of a conversation. Just make the coin appear, and then act surprised, as if you don't know where it came from. Play it off, and return to the conversation. You can do this a few times without people figuring it out.

Like all other illusions, your greatest resource is to keep them guessing. Surprise is always a good thing, and it works well with this trick. So long as you either keep them engaged with a good story, or slip this trick in and out of ordinary conversations, you should be able to have a lot of fun with this. - 31879

The Magic Voodoo Chicken Skull Re-Connection Ruse

By Miles Sunkest

If you love to do magic that will have people talking about you for months on end, this is the trick for you. This trick has been performed by various other magicians, and it never fails to shock and amuse the audience at the same time. This does require a couple of hard to handle props, and some practice. This is definitely not a trick to spring on your friends after a couple of beers.

This is the way it will look to your audience that will soon wish they chose another route to wherever they were going before they ran into you. You tell them you have suddenly acquired special voodoo powers from an ancient priestess you happened across in a bar recently. Or you bought a magic voodoo trinket or something. You then produce a chicken. (Yes a real, life chicken.) You hold the chicken to the crowd, and let them check that it's a real chicken and not a fake one.

You then describe in detail how your magic voodoo powers allow you to rip the head off this poor chicken, and re-attach it. They will, of course, wondering if you've lost your marbles. A few may even be on their cell phones to the police, so you'd better hurry. While you are describing the history of voodoo, and how it gives you magical power over animals, you rip off the chickens head. You present the specimen to the terrified crowd, perhaps laughing as you do so, and then quickly hook it back up to the poor bird, and release the chicken. (Hopefully before the cops show up.)

Here's the trick. Before you do this, you'll need a fake chicken head. You get these from hobby shops, or anyplace on the Internet. While you are telling the audience of your magical voodoo powers, grab the chickens head. Of course, nobody in their right mind will be looking too closely at a guy about to rip off a chicken's head.

While they are getting ready to recoil in horror, you simply take the chickens head and tuck it under her wing. By holding the real chicken under your left arm, you can keep the fake chicken head close by in your shirt pocket. Nobody will be looking close or careful enough to actually see what is going on. Then when you tuck the chickens head under the wing, pull out the fake chicken head, and quickly thrust it in the face of a few audience members. Do this only for a couple of seconds. Simply slip your hand back, and pull the pretend chicken head out of your shirt pocket, and carefully guide the chickens head under its wing (don't worry, they do this all the time on their own). If you want you can toss the chicken at the audience, further scaring into insanity.

When you're finished, simply hand the chicken back to whoever you borrowed it from. Just act like pulling off a chickens' head and replacing it is an everyday thing for a voodoo master like yourself. Then simply go on your merry way, whistling your favorite Broadway show tune. - 31879

How To Simply Impress Anybody With This Influential Money Magic Trick

By Miles Sunkest

This deceptively simple money magic trick is a fantastic party or bar trick, and will quickly have you at the center of conversation. It's easy to learn and the only prop you need can easily be secreted away in any small pocket.

Here's how the trick looks to the audience. You ask to borrow a couple of coins, preferably pennies, or pence pieces if you are in Britain. Any other currency, you must get coins that are made from copper. Make sure you don't get any aluminum coins, as that is the currency in some countries.

Once you have two coins, you rub them together and say a few magic words. The more strange sounding the magic words are, the better. And then, through your incredible powers of telepathy and other worldly skills, the two coins will magically stick together like glue. You touch one to the other, and will be able to pick it up off the table. If you give the two coins back to their original owner, it will be impossible for them to duplicate this trick.

Here's the secret. You'll need to get a small Neodymium magnet. These are cheap and you can buy them online or from any hobby shop. Get one small enough to hide between your forefinger and middle finger on either hand. Just make sure that the coin in your hand is in contact with the magnet at all times. That will magnetize the coin, so it will pick up the other coin.

This requires a bit of misdirection and some patter. Talk up a good game, before, during, and after the trick. And be careful not to spend too much time showing them that the coins are sticking together. Hold them together long enough so they will notice that the coins are sticking, and then give them the coins back. You want the focus on your hands only long enough to see that the coins are stuck together, then quickly shift he focus to the coins, rather than your hands, but giving them back to the original owner.

This is a great trick because it only takes a little bit of practice, and the only prop you need to carry around with you is a small magnet. Anyplace people have had a couple of drinks is perfect for this trick. This is also a great bar trick, as their are usually coins that are sitting around on the table for whatever reason.

One way to do this trick is to go right into it without any announcement whatsoever. Just pick up one coin, touch it with the hidden magnet in your hand, and then use it to pick up another coin. Look at them with surprise and astonishment, (long enough for somebody else to notice) and then quickly put them back down. That way the focus will be on the coins, and not your hands. Of course, everybody else at your table will try and repeat this, but won't be able to. If you can do a good job of acting innocent and clueless, you can have great fun with this trick. - 31879

This Simple Yet Powerful Card Trick Will Amaze Anybody

By Miles Sunkest

Here's a quick and simple magic trick that never fails to impress almost any crowd. All you need is a deck of cards and a table. And the best part is, you don't even have to touch the deck to do this trick.

This is the way you're audience will see it. You tell them to pick any non face card (e.g. ace through ten) and put an equal number of cards on top of it, and then place them back on the deck.

So if they pick a three, then they'd put three cards on top of the three, and then put this new stack of four cards on top of the deck.

Then you come into the room, or turn around, and ask them to spread the cards out on the table, from left to right, or right to left, or in a circle. Then, without touching the cards, you powerfully sneak into their mind and tell them which card they chose.

Most people can't figure this trick out, even though it's pretty simple. They have to be pretty good at reverse engineering to get this without you revealing this to them.

The trick is actually pretty simple. Here's how you do it. When they start laying the cards out, remember the order they put them in. Discount the first card, and then start to mentally count, starting from the second card, with number one. The third card would be two, and so on.

As soon as you get to a card where the card's number is the same as your secret mental count, that's their card. The best way to do this is quickly and silently, while they are laying the cards out. That gives you more time to do your psychic impression.

This trick works well at parties, when you can actually give them the instructions, including laying out the cards when they are finished. That way you can walk into the room, glance briefly at the table where they've laid their cards, and put on your mind reading show.

Be forewarned, as there is about a ten percent chance that two cards will actually match up with your mental count. Don't worry, you can play this off pretty easily. Pick which ever card you like, and then choose it as their card. If you're wrong, they'll question your mental powers, and start giving you a hard time, which is when you say "just kidding," and then pick their real card right away, as if you knew what it was all along.

This is particularly fun to do with kids, as after you finish, you can teach it to them, so they can go and show their friends. - 31879

This Potent And Mesmerizing Magic Will Automatically Impress Everybody

By Miles Sunkest

Here is a great magic trick that will convince almost anybody that you are connected to the other side, and are gifted with great amounts of black magic. It's an up close trick, and requires a few basic materials, but they are so small you can easily carry them around in your pocket. A bar, club, or friends house is a great place to do this trick.

Here's how the illusion looks to the audience. You elicit the help of a participant, anyone you choose. If you happen to be in a bar, and want to make an impression on a lady, this is a great way to get her phone number. Otherwise, anybody you want to choose is fine.

You get them to think of a single word. It can be anything. Being more creative and outlandish will only help you. If it's a girl or a guy you're after, you can get them to think of their phone number. Some other things they can write is the name of their favorite spice, or their first grade teacher, or anything else you can think of.

Then you hand them a small notepad, and a pen. You tell them to write the name of whatever it is they have thought of on the notepad. Then have them show the rest of the crowd, and you can stand back so they don't think you are trying to peek. Then they crumple the paper up, put it in an ashtray, and then burn it to ash. Then you reach over, get some of the ash on your fingers, and then rub across your forearm. By the powers of black magic and your psychic powers of projection, whatever they wrote on the paper will not be spelled out on your forearm, in ash. Without question, they will be powerfully impressed.

Here's the trick. Of course, you'll need a ball point pen and small pad of paper. You will also need a small container of dish soap. You can also use a tube of chap stick or other lip balm. Make sure you give them a pen that has a ball point. When they are showing whatever they've written to their friends, you quickly read the impression which should have been made on the pad. This is why you need a ball point pen. A felt tip won't push through enough, and won't leave an impression.

Now you quickly dab the tip of your finger into the lip balm or the dish soap, and rapidly write the word or number onto your forearm. Obviously, you'll need to do some misdirection. One way is to instruct the audience that it is imperative that they memorize the written word with all their might, or they must concentrate while staring at the word so that you may read their minds.

Then when you get some ash from the burned paper and rub it on your arm, the word will magically stand out, as the ash will naturally stick to the dish soap or the lip balm. They will be impressed, an a few may ask for more tricks, and if you want a particular girl's phone number, well, you've got it. - 31879

How to do Magic Vanish

By John Wong

Trap doors, smoke and mirrors are what average people think about the performing art of magic. In fact, magic has a lot deeper content. Many principles behind magic tricks are sophisticatedly composed to deceive human mind very effectively. Even for the most passionate hecklers, the closer they look, the less they see. Let's look at some principles used in vanish magic.

Theoretically, the reverse of the production of something like a glass, should prove effective as a vanish. But it won't. This is because the production had the advantage of surprise, with the necessary moves taking place before the spectators knew the effect. But, using the reversed routine as a vanish cannot be made effective because all of the moves take place after the trick is done, with little possibility of shaking off the watchers' scrutiny.

The use of misdirection can help magicians to handle the difficulties met in vanishing an object. If the audience focuses on something else rather than the real object itself, the magician will have the required opportunity to execute his moves. The use of a form of the object does the trick. For instance if a glass is to be vanished, a form of it can be a ring form of the same diameter of the glass hidden inside a covering handkerchief. That way when the ring is held, it is perceived that the glass is held.

One way to achieve the vanish can be similar to the following. First, the magician covers the glass with the gimmicked handkerchief. Then, the ring form is position on the rim of the glass. His left hand holds the ring while the right hand clips the stem with the curled second and third fingers. This is all under cover of the handkerchief.

The ring is placed on a frame to stand and appear to be the standing glass. Now the right hand opens the fingers and let the glass be hung upside down between the fingers.

When the magician wants to present the vanish effect, he takes the illusionary glass which in fact is nothing more than a handkerchief and a ring with his left hand. At this moment, his body is turned to the left a little bit to provide the necessary cover for the right hand to dispose the real glass inside the secret pocket between the coat and the vest. Immediately, the right hand come up and takes the corner of the handkerchief. It is shook and the glass vanishes into thin air apparently.

The spectators believe that the important timing for any possible move to remove the glass has not yet come because they continue to see the form of the glass, believing the glass to be in place. Under cover of this misdirection, the disposal of the glass is done. - 31879

This Remarkable Magic Trick Will Powerfully Amuse Any Crowd

By Miles Sunkest

This classic magic trick is fairly easy to learn, yet will powerfully entertain any audience. This is an up close type of trick, so you can perform it for your friends, at a bar or at a party. It requires a bit of set up, but since you will be using pretty straightforward and everyday objects, this shouldn't present a problem.

This is how your soon to be amazed friends will see it. You grab a seemingly partially crushed and empty soda can You show the audience that it's empty but turning it upside down, and showing them open top. Then you hold it with your magical hands, and with your magical powers, you somehow use powers that break the laws of physics to bring this seemingly dead can of soda back to life.

You shake the can, and those already mesmerized by your gifts will hear the soda shaking inside the can. The can will mysteriously restore itself to its original shape. When you show them the top, they will see that it has not been opened. You simply open the top like any normal can of soda, and when they hear the familiar "pop," they will gasp in amazement. They will now look up to you as an accomplished mentalist, capable of the most amazing feats of magic.

Here's how to do the trick. First you get a regular can of soda. The first step is to get a piece of black paper, and cover up the lid, so that it will appear to be open when you show it to the crowd. Then you take a pen or something like a Phillips head screwdriver, and punch a hole about midway down the can. Pour out about half of the soda through the hole. Then crush the can slightly, and leave it off to the side, for you to "find" later.

When when you grab this seemingly empty can, you quickly show them the top, which they will be convinced has been opened. Then while covering the hole with your thumb, shake the can. The crowd will hear the sloshing, and see the can mysteriously come back to life. When you shake the can, the carbonation will "fizz" and expand the gas inside the can, which will reshape the can back to its original shape. Then you simply remove the black covering that was over the top, and open the can. Be sure to cover the hole while you are pouring the drink out.

The trick is to tell some kind of interesting tale while you are showing them the top of the can, and right when you begin shaking. When you do this, they'll be following your words, and won't even pay attention to the can until it's too late. When you reveal this powerful magic trick, they will be impressed beyond belief. - 31879

The Light Fantastic

By Britt Hellman

Back from the time when it all began, The Light Fantastic is the classic second Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett from 1986. Little did anybody know that it would eventually lead to Pratchett becoming Great Britain's number one best-selling author in the following decade.

The Light Fantastic is a delightful parody on, among many other things, the mythical Armageddon and the religious fanaticism it engenders in people. In Pratchett's Discworld, this fanaticism naturally leads to book burning, lynch mobs, and entranced, mindless throngs.

Moving through all of this, we follow the (mis-)adventures of a "failed" wizard named Rincewind as he travels around the Discworld, trying to get away from anything that seems threatening, which covers just about everything.

Everything, that is, except the one thing that causes everyone else to panic: The new Red Star that has been showing up on the sky and keeps growing in intensity and heat. As Rincewind's friend Twoflower so aptly puts it: "If there was anything at all to be frightened about, he'd be frightened. But he's not. The star is just about the only thing I've ever seen him not frightened of. If he's not worried, then take if it from me, there's nothing to worry about."

In the end, it turns out that Twoflower is right in using Rincewind as the barometer for any real threat to the world as they know it. Rincewind is, after all, the Discworld's leading authority on when to panic.

The adventures of Rincewind and Twoflower take them through a forest of talking trees, a visit with predominantly friendly rock trolls, travelling through the universe in a magic gift shop and through the skies on a druid-levitated rock, narrowly escaping Death after visiting the netherworlds, and saving a sacrificial virgin against her most ardent insistence: Things that are possible on the Discworld and nowhere else.

However, what the story is really about is a "lost" magic spell that every wizard on Discworld is searching for. Together with the seven other spells from the magic book Octavo, it needs to be read at the appointed time in order to turn the tide of events, save the Discworld from destruction, and veer Great A'Tuin away from the Red Star.

Great A'Tuin, naturally, being the giant sea turtle swimming through space with four elephants on its back, elephants which in turn carry the Discworld on their backs. I'm just saying, in case there are those of you who still believe that worlds are generally spherical and revolve around the suns.

The Light Fantastic is a great read and highly recommended, though I must caution, it requires great discipline in order to not laugh out loud if read in quiet public spaces such as libraries. It can be read as a standalone book or as part of the series. - 31879

How To Decide Which Corporate Magician Is Right For You

By Andrew Edmonds

A good corporate magician can make any business event extra special. From company parties to corporate trade shows to holiday parties, a magician can engage your guests and help you create a positive, memorable impression on your clients. Here are a few tips to help you choose the perfect person who will add zest and life to your party.

It is best to pick a person who is professional, both in dress and mannerisms, and who treats their audience with respect. This person will be representing you and your company and it would be extremely bad for business if you hired a magician who insulted and demeaned your clients.

If you can, try to get a magician whose persona matches your company brand. This is an often overlooked aspect of hiring a performer. Most businesses only look to make sure the person will be wearing appropriate attire, which is important especially if your event is upscale. However, more important is for their appearance and personality to be inline with your marketing message. For example, a company that sells disposable razors should look for a beardless magician.

While experience in the field of corporate magic should be on your list, it would be a bonus for you if the magician had a corporate background. Someone who previously worked in the business world would be better prepared to create a performance that effectively integrated and presented your marketing message to your guests.

Get a written estimate of how much they charge to perform at your event. Don't forget to ask what their policy is regarding if the event lasts longer than what was contracted for. Most performers will simply charge you for the extra time. However, some do schedule multiple events on the same day and will leave at their scheduled time even if your event is still ongoing. If you need them to be open to staying be sure to have them write a quote that includes that eventuality.

The internet can help make choosing a magician much easier by weeding out the ones with less than favorable reputations. The open nature of the internet means that doing a simple search through a search engine like Bing will usually bring up reviews of the performer from other clients. In addition to this, ask for and contact references to find out what their previous clients have to say about them.

To get a good feel for the performer and how they interact with their audience, go to one of their performances. Seeing them in action will give you a better idea as to whether or not they are a good fit for your event. You can find out when a magician is performing by asking them. Most are more than happy to give you that information.

Your company event is important therefore you want to make sure you hire a corporate magician who will take it as serious as you do. Use these tips to find the perfect person who will represent your company well. - 31879
